Henry's Birth

I want to write down my memories of the day Henry was born before I forget the details. I always think that there is no way I could forget important details (most the time I don't) but just in case, I wanted to preserve them in blogger space forever. Feel free to just go to the pictures and never mind what I write...

I got the call to go into the hospital at 6:00 am for an induction. I had been dilated to an "almost 5" for 2 weeks and this call was the answer to end my suffering. Seriously though... It was a bitter sweet day. Even though I had felt pretty uncomfortable the last few weeks, I couldn't help feel very sad to end my 40 weeks of pregnancy knowing it would be my last. I'm one of those crazies who loves being pregnant. I'm 5 weeks postpartum today and I still feel like there is something missing. I sit here and wonder why I feel empty and then realize that it's because there is no movement inside. There's no big day to prepare for, no wondering what he'll look like, no unavoidable attention from strangers and family. So much is over and done. Sigh....

After I got the call, I told the nurse that I would be there at 7:00 and hung up the phone. It was baby time! But where oh where was Mr. Lloyd to share my excitement? Would you believe the man was 15 miles away on a bike ride? He had gotten up at 5:00 to get in an early morning ride and still wasn't back. I called him and told him to peddle fast or I would leave without him. So I got up and got dressed then got my 3 little girls up and dressed just in time for Mr. to come in dripping sweat through the door. We all got in the car, dropped the kids off at Nanna's house and made it to the hospital just after 7:00.

The first part of the morning went well. I was comfortable and really making the most of the experience. By 4:30 things were picking up and I decided to tell the nurse I was ready to have the baby. I requested that we have him at 4:42 and the nurse seemed to think I was kidding. 42 is mine and Brent's lucky number so I thought it would be a good time for him to be born. When my midwife showed up at 4:40 she told me to give a practice push which I did and almost landed the baby on the floor. She told me to stop pushing and wait a minute. When I finally was given the go ahead I pushed twice and Baby was born at 4:42 PM just like I asked. Brent was a great support while I labored (not that he had to do much) but I couldn't have done it without him.

Once baby was put in my arms I was in love. I loved him the minute I knew I was pregnant. I loved himthe minute he was born. Then I saw his face and fell in love some more. He was only a minute old but I knew I would die for him. Tears, kisses, and smiles were immediately showered on him. I think the first thing that I noticed about him was how much he looked like Emma followed by how big he was. Once the rest of the family showed up to meet him, the girls immediately began calling him Henry. I still wasn't sure if that was his name but they insisted and it felt right so that is what we named him.

The rest of our stay at the hospital wasn't what I had expected. I was hoping for rest and bonding time with Henry but instead he wasn't able to room with me because he had low blood sugar. Instead he had to be in the level 2 nursery to be monitored and have iv fluids. I was very upset about this and called my mom at 6:00 in the morning in tears. She showed up with Bob an hour later and had done the research about his condition to help me feel better. The worst part of the situation was having to walk down the hall every time he needed to be fed and sit in an uncomfortable chair to do it. The nurse had to check his blood every time before and after he ate. His poor little foot was poked every time. I was devastated. Mostly because I was exhausted, but also because I didn't know how serious the problem was. Of course things turned out okay and we were able to go home on time. I was able to get the rest I needed thanks to the wonderful Mr. Lloyd. He was on top of everything for the first week. I didn't lift a finger. By week two I felt better and was able to go back to being mom to the rest of my little ones.

Here are a few of Henry's first Pictures. Because he wasn't in the room with me, I wasn't able to get one of all of us together. Pictures were the last thing on my mind. I will have sweet memories of this amazing time forever.

Preparing for Summer

Summer is just around the corner. The last full day of school is tomorrow and I am meeting it with excitement and a little trepidation. Did I say a little... I mean a lot. New baby will be here in two weeks (maybe sooner) and I'm wondering how I can keep my family on a schedule and avoid driving each other crazy while adjusting to our new wee baby? Well folks, I do have a plan. I call it The Suck It Up Plan. No matter how tired and hormonal I know I will feel, I vow to suck it up and play with the girls and get them to activities, play dates, pools, parks, museums, and all the other usual summer hot spots. I also vow that I will not let their brains turn to mush by watching TV all day.

So with all this in mind, here is what I'm thinking we need this summer...
  • Chore charts - New ones with new jobs to lean to keep things interesting
  • Summer school - reading, writing, math, and some fun science. I'm thinking just a few days a week or even just 20 minutes a day.
  • Bingo Charts - Our family has done these for the last few summers. They are really fun and teach kids about setting goals. What we do is fill out a blank bingo card with all the different activities or goals that we want to get done during the summer months. Mine usually get filled up with house projects, parades, and fitness goals. The kids come up with ideas like playing with random friends, baking cookies, swimming and camping. As each activity is completed, a sticker goes in the square. When you get a BINGO, you get a prize. When you get blackout, you get $10.
  • A weekly schedule - Some places we hit each week like the library. (This year we are getting a summer movie pass at the sticky shoe for a weekly kid movie and .25 cent popcorn.) Other days we will go swimming and visit local summer hot spots.

It's all about the plan friends. With a bit of planning and a smidgen of help from Grandma & Nana, I think I'll be able to stick to my Suck it up plan. What I really would like to be doing this summer is sleeping and reading. But I guess I'll save that plan for when I'm an oldie.

Tea Time

We celebrated Isabelle's 6th birthday with a tea soriee (that's a fancy word for party) for her and her friends. It was sooo adorable. All the little girls came dressed in their fanciest tea party dresses and had a great time eating lunch and playing together. This was one of the best parties that I have given my girls. I have come to love all of Iza's little friends so much. It brought me so much joy seeing them together and enjoying the day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISABELLE!
The fancy cup cakesFancy tea party goody bagsThe girls had their lunch and "tea" on real tea china. Compliments of Brent's mom. I don't think these cups and plates have been used in decades. It was about time they came out of storage and put to good use. I made sure to teach the girls how important it is to drink your tea with the pinkie sticking out. The girls got to visit the makeup table to get themselves all pretty for the party. My new preschool classroom made the perfect setting for this party. They played in the castle every chance they got. (we haven't painted it to look like a castle yet but when it is done it will look amazing.)Tea Time!Pinkies up!Craft time! It's always a good idea to make pretty jewelry at a party. I hope my little Isabelle knows how blessed she is to have such amazing friends. It has taken me my whole life to build friendships as strong as she has in her 6 short years. She's 6

Snow Princess

A few weeks ago Lucy wandered outside in her princess dress. She looked so dang adorable playing in the snow with her blue dress and pink boots. My friend Erin came over with her camera and snapped these pictures. This silly little girl of mine pretty much lives in her princess dresses. She didn't mind at all that it was freezing cold outside. There really are no words to express how these silly little childhood moments make me feel. I wish I could be just like Lucy!

Oh Baby!

Baby #4 will be here early June!

This has been a typical pregnancy for me so far. I'm feeling great and life is moving forward as normal. I'm excited for this baby. I know for sure that it will be my last one so I plan to enjoy every moment of the next 6 months. I'm secretly hoping for another girl. I love the girl thing we've got going at our house. But a little boy would be wonderful too! What do you think I'll have? Most of my friends think boy, I'm thinking girl, Brent is trying not to think about it.

On a side note... I've decided to go private with my blog. I would love for all of you (even you who never comment) to still check up on us. Please send me your e-mail in a comment and I will make sure to invite you to the blog.

Halloween

Somehow this year I got away without hosting the family/neighborhood Halloween party. It was the most stress free Halloween I've had in years. My super sister Sommer had the bash at her house and planned everything. We just showed up and enjoyed the fun. My contribution to the party was giving out hot sauce, ketchup packets, and Kraft singles instead of candy to the older trick-or-treaters . I can just imagine their confusion when they get home and wonder what house stiffed them. hehehe! It was a great day. The kids had the best time and went to bed last night full of sweet dreams, a few new cavities, and memories of another great holiday.

This is my step dad Bob Ross. He dressed up this year as Bob Ross the painter. I wanted my mom to dress up as a happy little tree or a happy little cloud. But she didn't want to.
