The First day of Second Grade
I get so nervous on the first day of school. I think it's harder for me than for Emma. What mom wants to see their kid cry into her breakfast so afraid that no one will sit with them at lunch? Such drama. But, since Emma's still young enough, I still get to take her to school and walk her to her class without her being embarrassed. I have to admit that I'm a bit of a mom stalker. After I dropped her off, I'm afraid I lingered around her class longer than I should have. I don't know what I was waiting to happen, but it never did, so I slowly went home. I'm getting better though. Last year when I decided to let her ride the bus, I did the unspeakable. I actually drove to the school to make sure she got on the right bus and then followed it on its route to our neighborhood. After about a week of tailing the big yellow beast, I felt like she had the hang of it and quit. Will this parenting thing ever get easier?
In case you were wondering about her first day I think it went well. Of course little miss social didn't eat alone. She had plenty of friends for her to eat with. She likes her teacher and she didn't even pee her pants. (She was worried about this because of the stories I've told her about my second grade year. It wasn't my best.) So, one more year is on the way. Even though this parenting thing isn't getting easier on my nerves, it's sure going by way to fast for me. Can I just freeze time with my babies before they get any older?

She looks so sweet! I'm glad she had a good day :) I'll give you a call about the Peaks... we are throwing it around. Friday friends at our house. Hopefully we will see you then!
She is so cute. I hear ya about the whole kids growing up too fast thing. The first day of school is harder for me too. I had to laugh at your confession of following the bus. It makes me think of the time I did the same thing and the bus driver got nervous so she asked the kids on the bus if it was anyones Mom and my little D.J. says 'no, it's not mine.' So the driver decided to call the police and I got pulled over. The officer wouldn't believe that my kid was on the bus because the driver asked all the kids and they said it wasn't.He told me that he had my license plate number and if I was caught following a bus again I would have big problems. Honestly, why would I follow a bus to school in my pajamas (no bra), with my baby in the back seat screaming if my child wasn't on there?! I was so mad. When D.J. got home he told me all about how a stranger followed the bus to school but it's OK because the police came and took her to jail! I couldn't even tell him it was me! I just said "Oh, good thing". Being a parent is crazy!
(sorry for the long story)
holy cow Sarah! That is the best crazy mom story I've ever heard. You should try to get that published.
I totally understand. Today was Ethan's first day of school and I thought about letting him sluff the first day just to hangout. Does that make me a loser? Anyway, how fun are you with the outside movies and stuff. It looks like my invitation must have got lost in the mail somewhere. :)
That is hilarious. My friend just did the same thing the other day...your kids probably go to the same school :) I loved that story about getting pulled over...hilarious. What we do for our kids.
I about wet my pants when Sarah told me about getting pulled over. It was the talk of the neighborhood and she never told them it was her. Emma's so cute. I think all second graders worry those things. I want that pool. I think it's a little out of my budget though. Looks like a blast.
It does get easier, Mandy, don't worry. I never did the bus stalking thing, and your friends story was hilarious! It's ok to be the kind of mom that loves their kids enough to act a little crazy at times. It's what we do best. :) I am glad she had friends to eat with, I never doubted that. She's such a sweetheart and so dang cute! Who wouldn't want to sit by her? Maybe you need to come to my yoga class so you can let go of the stress. ahhhh namaste lol
Mandy you are too funny. I think your a great mom. Sarah's little story takes the cake! I made Brian come and read it we were both laughing so hard!
Little Sister. Emma is getting so grown up! She reminds me of you at that age and sounds so much like Jacqueline. I wish we all lived closer cause i think they would be best little friends. Love you guys. Jared
